Show of the Year
Written all over this one. Almost the absolute "A" list setlist of that time, and every song played with high intensity and focus and given the stretchy jam treatment that would tend to shrink as the 80's wore on. My brother, God rest his soul, had a tape of the 2nd set, and this was exactly the type of show I always craved (but never really got). I haven't even heard the first set yet, but with that list, the way they played the 2nd, it has to be very good. Oh, and the vocals still have the sweetness of youth. Jerry's 40th may have been the next night, but this is definitely the better show.

17th Trip Around the Sun
Great audio mixes abound for this one and it's hard to say which is best. I opted for this "as is" untouched DAT transfer from Latvala, couldn't resist. It's awesome. Phil sounds like a beast firing away and dropping bombs, throughout. Otherwise, I like how Pangolin22 characterizes this as "a good meat n'potatoes setlist from the early Brent years." I take this to mean (and agree) that while it's nothing spectacular, on the whole it's a solid show from the summer of 82. At any rate, the second set is definitely better than the first, not to say that the first is bad. My favorites from the first is the Bird Song, featured on the 30 trips definitive live story, the Red Rooster that follows and the short, but sweet, set closing Deal. Set two Scarlet-Fire opener is hot. Estimated-Eyes follows. Bobby sounds great, vocally and on guitar. There's a somewhat curt transition into Eyes, which gets speedy real quick. Neat little, almost three minute jam post-Eyes starts around 12 minutes, breaks apart and leads into an uptempo drums. Post-space brings more '82 goodness. The transition from UJB into Truckin' is a little off and seemingly confused but they get it together and it ends up being a strong rendition, as is the whole suite through the Dew->Sat Night closer.

Sometimes the sparkly dew in the morning reminds me of Jerry Garcia
This Morning Dew broke my heart. It'll never be the same without Jerry Garcia.
At the same time I am so grateful we got the rest of the Band we still got among us and we got the deadheads we still got among us.
Thank you for this fine recording of a very fine show.

Finally found the 82 Manor Downs!
I was at this show and have been looking for this for years. Just found two 30 year old rolls of slide film from the show to be developed soon. Hoping for the best with such old Ektachrome. What a show....lysergic.

! simply beautiful !
A very nice recording from an era that, in mind mind, evokes some degree of innocence. I was, after all, still a teenager (barely). I think this was a strong period for the band creatively. West LA, Touch and Throwin' Stones were just weeks away from their first live performances. This show is representative of the period and the Dick Latvala tape is strong. Thanks for the upload...I certainly enjoyed it! Best,
